Project: Thuso

The THUSO Project seeks to promote the dignity, safety, and inclusion of LGBTIQ+ persons in Lesotho by addressing structural discrimination in financial services, public infrastructure, prisons, and gender-based violence (GBV) response systems. The project seeks to eliminate barriers within the financial sector, exclusion from gender-neutral facilities, and inadequate support in correctional and GBV shelters. Key activities include advocating for inclusive banking policies and training financial institutions, promoting gender-neutral sanitation facilities in public infrastructure, strengthening LGBTIQ+-sensitive protocols within law enforcement and GBV shelters, and documenting human rights violations while mobilizing communities for advocacy. Implemented in Maseru, Berea, and Leribe, the project collaborates with partners like the National University of Lesotho Faculty of Law and the KP Consortium, with a focus on policy reform, institutional capacity building, and public awareness. By aligning with global human rights standards, THUSO aims to foster lasting systemic change for LGBTIQ+ equality in Lesotho.
