Gender Links seeks the services of independent regional experts to serve on the Grants Selection Committee of the Marang Southern Africa LGBTIQ Fund. Applications must be submitted by 17:00 SAST on 23 June 2025 to marangprogmanager@genderlinks.org.za.
About the fund
The Marang Fund is a collaboration between Gender Links (GL) and the Botswana Network on Ethics, Law and HIV/AIDS (BONELA), funded by the European Union. It aims to increase the enjoyment of human rights by LGBTIQ individuals and advance equality across Botswana, Lesotho, Madagascar, Mauritius and Namibia. The Fund supports community-led organisations working on legal aid, psychosocial support, safe spaces, public education, human rights documentation, advocacy and movement building.
About the Grants Call
The Marang Fund offers grants of up to €50,000 over two years to LGBTIQ focused NGOs and CBOs based in the five eligible countries. The Call For Applications opened on 4 June 2025. The deadline for grant applications is 30 June 2025 at 23:59 SAST.
How the grants selection will be conducted
- The Marang Fund will constitute committees in each country comprising two staff and one external panelist.
- Final recommendations will go to the Marang Fund Leadership team assisted by an external panelist.
Criteria for Serving on the Grants Selection Committee
Interested candidates must
- Be based in Botswana, Lesotho, Madagascar, Mauritius or Namibia or (for final decisions) come from the Southern Africa region.
- Be available to work virtually during the week of 4-10 July, as all assessments will be conducted online.
- Have deep insight into local LGBTIQ community contexts
- Be individuals of integrity, principle, and good standing, widely respected in their field and communities.
- Have previous experience in grants selection or management
- Come from diverse backgrounds; candidates identifying as LGBTIQ+ or with disabilities are especially encouraged to apply.
- Have no conflict of interest with potential applicants. If such conflict should arise, must immediately declare this using GL’s Conflict of Interest Form.
- Proven expertise in grant review and management to applicants to ensure transparency and support capacity.
Selection Process
Decisions on committee memberships will be communicated by 30 June 2025. A virtual briefing for selected members will follow shortly thereafter.
Terms and conditions
Gender Links cannot determine the exact time commitment required, as this will depend on the number of applications received. This information will be communicated to selected committee members. Members will work intensively during the review but virtually and at their own pace.
- An honorarium will be offered to all committee members in recognition of their time and effort. This will be paid per application reviewed.
- Comments made during review will be shared with applicants.
- Finalists may be asked to make presentations.
- You may be invited to the on-boarding of grantees in August 2025 to share general comments and suggestions based on the applications reviewed.
- Gender Links will keep your details on the online data base for other possible assignments, including serving as a judge at learning and sharing summits.
